We’ve been in Africa five weeks today, and yesterday we got some pictures to prove it. It was our first “off weekend” (a.k.a., first opportunity we had to leave the base for an extended period to do something of our choosing), and we were able to join some fellow trainees for a wonderful relaxing time! It’s helpful to have friends who are natives, and other friends who have a car and know how to drive on the left. Carlton and Ali are a british couple who just completed the training and played host/chauffeur to part of our party. Francois and Leani are an Afrikaans couple who also just completed training, and showed us our way around. They also hosted some of the trainees at their home.
We visited Irene Mall for brunch, toured a nature reserve, ordered pizza, watched a movie, and just generally enjoyed ourselves :)
I can’t take credit for most of the pictures...Todd was sitting next to the window during our tour of the reserve, so he’s the one responsible for these National Geographic images. He’s also the one who can actually take decent pictures on an iPod, which is what we used to photograph our brunch items.
Waiting for brunch!
French toast with bananas, strawberries and honey :)
Ok, I am not a juice person, but this was just like drinking a pureed mango! So delicious and thick and not overly sweet...my favorite part of the entire meal!
The MASSIVE spinach, bacon and ham omelet we split.
Zebra (which are sometimes pronounced with a short e...we're trying to adapt to the local way, but I think I sound ridiculous saying it like that).
Zebra butt :)
Ostriches are scary. And weird. Have you watched them walk?
Todd had the camera at the ready and was able to get this 2 second fight. I was hoping for something a little more devastating...
I'm not completely sure what this is.
Ali, from London, and her husband Carlton's nose. I just thought it was a cute picture :)
